suggested this on November 24, 2011 05:17

Hi There.. when I am in the SEO Competition module I used to be able to analyze my  competitor's anchor texts for a particular keyword but now that button is not there anymore!

Was this button relocated somewhere?

See screenshot attached.

Our apologies about the lack of communication around this!

When Yahoo's Site Explorer was shut down the other day, we put an announcement to display on opening a project that this would affect Rank Tracker.  What we did not make clear enough was that the information for the PR and Anchor Text Analysis features in SEO Competition came from the same source!

We are currently finalizing a deal to replace Site Explorer for this information (with a far more reliable source), and the features should be back very shortly - days, not weeks.

In the meantime, I believe we're going to be adding a bit of explanatory text where the buttons used to be...

Im glad to hear this feature was not discarded and that a fix is in the works.  Having this piece of data is crucial for me because I get to see what I am going up against in terms of backlinking.

Thank you for the explanation Ben!

Well, we are over a week now since you said that so i guess that means it wont be happening in days instead of weeks.

Yes, almost every time I give even a vague prediction of the future, it comes back to haunt me!

The deal is done, though, so it's just making sure the technical changes are integrated properly.  We'd rather avoid making a mistake due to rushing this unnecessarily!

Always works that way Ben. It'll come back to bite us every time. Glad to hear that progress is made however.

Ben, thanks for the update, and I understand the hassles (somewhat) of being a developer and having techincal hoops to jump through. So long as the information is going to be made available, it's worth the wait. In the meantime, everyone:

Use ahrefs.com, Blekko.com or the free version of MajesticSEO and then use something like a mass page rank checker site (if you Google "pagerank checker" or "Mass pagerank checker" you have some options). Alternatives also include webseoanalytics.com - they run free reports up to a certain limit a day (I think it was like 10 free reports?) - if you need to check links on a competitor. Hope that helps.

I'm glad I checked here before buying another product (I'm way past the refund time for MS, and wouldn't want to stop using it now anyway).

I can tell you that progress is still being made.  Some unrelated issues cropped up that simply had to be dealt with first - they're out of the way now, and the new feature is being coded and tested.  It's taken a lot longer than we originally hoped, but it's never been off our radar!

I'm also looking for this feature to return as I haven't found a good alternative.
