(Oct 2011) Important Bug Fix! Auto-update was not working...

We've discovered that since version v0.88.01 the auto-update feature has been broken.  This means that you won't get notified of our updates, but manually updating your software still works.

We have fixed this with our latest update, currently v0.88.07.  

You can check for updates manually by going to the Settings menu (or Preferences, on a Mac) and selecting the "Updates" tab, then clicking the button provided.  

Once you're running v0.88.07 the automatic update feature will work again going forward.

I followed these directions and now v88.07 is installed.  However Google page ranks have now disappeared!

I have having the same problem as Leonard.  I also cannot update rankings with the new feature.  I now get an error message that says the google index check failed after 60 attempts, and it never gets to checking rankings.

Hi all - our new upgrade to Rank Tracker has been off to a rocky start!  We're fixing a few more issues which have been troubling many users over the past few days and they should be out over the next day or so.

Some fixes are on our end but at least one will require a software update.  If you've manually upgraded to v0.88.07 already you'll receive the notification when it's ready; we're also working on ways to push out the upgrade to those who haven't gotten the news.

The good news is that there should be no lasting data loss - the problems are more related to how data is displayed, certain error messages coming up when they shouldn't, and generally slow performance which caused a variety of other symptoms (which also were affecting SEO Competition)   And the new system should be noticeably faster for most users going forward!

Just installed v0.88.08 and the SEO Competition gets stuck at around 20% each time.

Is this an issue you are aware of that's being fixed?

I just installed v. 88.08 and in SEO Competition, CA does not update and the system stalls at around the 27% line.

Any suggestions?

The MS open screen tells me to "Your copy of Market Samurai requires an important update.
Please visit this link and click the 'Install Now' button
to update to the latest version.", and when I do visit the link, the link says "You are seeing this message because you have exceeded the maximum number of downloads for this download link.". The direct link I got says the same thing. The is extremely awkward...

Looking for refined commentary on 'no long lasting data loss'.  So when I see only 1/3rd of my rank tracker keywords the rest of them are still ok and just hiding on your end somewhere?

Sorry about this - things are still a bit unsteady on our end with regards to the servers, it seems!  In particular we had some downtime last night between 8-9pm local time. 

I appreciate you bearing with us through this rough patch with Rank Tracker; we believe the results will be worth the wait!

As always, the best way to get help with specific questions is to contact us directly via support@noblesamurai.com - we're doing our best to keep up with the flow of incoming issues.

Andy, all I can tell you is that the problems many of you are seeing are for the most part with fetching data, not with what's been retrieved and stored in the past on your side.  The symptoms are varying from case to case (sometimes you get "+", other times errors, etc) because the new system is doing things quite differently from the old one, and we are encountering conditions under real-world loads which could not be fully simulated during testing. 

It's actually working OK for a lot of customers but obviously far too many are still having problems, and we're going to keep at it until everything's back to normal (well, even better than normal, we hope!)

Mike - sorry about that!  We have increased everyone's download limit by 1 so you should be able to upgrade now.  This was a special case, an alternative form of upgrade prompt as the usual one had gone awry for virtually everyone.  Get in touch with us at support@noblesamurai.com about increasing your download limit.

I haven't been able to get fresh Google rank updates since Sunday. I've downloaded the new version of Market Samurai, too. I had v88.07, and got the install prompt for v. 88.08 and installed that. So I've got v. 88.08. The weird thing is, Rank Tracker is pulling fresh results for me from Yahoo and Bing, but not Google. But it's the Google results I need, and I haven't been able to get them since Sunday. Any idea how to fix this, or when the issue will be fixed?

I have updated my software to version 0.88.10. The rank tracker module is not working. It just hangs and never brings back any data.

And rank tracker has not been working for about a week now - and has been shaky for last couple weeks.

This is my most used tool - so definitely a downer - any word on when this will be fixed?

I think its safe to say that MS has always been 110% for this project and are doing their best to resolve the issues. But I do feel for everyone as I am in the same boat given this is my #1 most used tool.

Again, we are very sorry about the Rank Tracker problems so many users are experiencing lately - they have been unusually complex to sort out, but we are making good progress.  One major issue was taken care of with today's update and we have identified the causes and (we think) solutions to others, though we'll know more about that over the next few days as the updates are developed and tested.

As always, the best way to get specific answers to your questions is to Email support@noblesamurai.com - our response times were sneaking a bit past our usual goal of 24-48 hours for a while but we've gotten the lists back under control for the moment I think!

I'm now getting sporadic Google rankings, but found some inaccuracies.  Two of my keywords show on MS in Google positions 14 and 10 and when I checked the results manually (after clearing all my history, cookies etc.) and asking a friend to double check, I get Google positions 22 and 25 respectively.  I've sent in a support ticket with more detail.  But I've sent in support tickets over the last week and no reply.....but if it’s a known problem, I guess I'd rather have you spend the time fixing it rather than replying to my support tickets.  Thanks

Well I am hosed as well. My MS starts up saying it is a Beta copy and then when I click the download link it want me to re-install MS.

I don't know if this is related, but since 4 days ago at least, when I try to update the rankings, MS always gets stuck at 99% or some seconds left to finish. Even with the latest updates I got that problem, no matter what project I do use, or even creating new ones...should I submit a ticket?

I am also having problems with google ranking results or else google has dropped most of my sites ranking drastically since  October 22. Is anything else going on with google or is it the rank reporting from MS?

The situation with Rank Tracker has improved greatly as of a few days ago - not all problems are gone but most customers are getting more reliable and accurate results since v0.88.11 (not to mention a number of changes on our servers).

Hi Richard - we've only seen one ticket from you and that got replied yesterday, I think.

Steve - Market Samurai is still a beta product, because we're not done adding features to it.  If you have trouble with the automatic upgrade, try the manual instructions on your personalized download page - this shot highlights what I mean: http://goo.gl/MHnhl

Hi Pablo - definitely submit a ticket, if you're running the latest version and are still having problems...

Jim - MS gets its numbers straight from Google, which you can confirm by using the little blue "click-thru" arrows next to the numbers.  If you still have concerns, send us an Email and we'll look into it!

Rank tracker is a great problem! 

When I contact to support only answer I get is "Don't worry we are looking into it". I am sorry but I can't. I have a job to do and I need to use software I paid for!

Market Samurai has found no suggestions from the Google Keyword Tool.
This may have occurred if Google's data-centers are updating, or if the adult content option in Project Settings is disabled.

I just download  version 0.88.12. 1. But New keyword campaign is freezing with message "Wait...", and my old campaign does not show keyword analysis results . From entire screen it only shows results in SEO Competition column.  How long keyword research will not work? What is going on with major option (keyword search results)?

Hi all,

I am writing this message to the users of MS.  I have been using for almost 2 years now.  If you've been using it as long as I have you know there is always something being worked on, or upgraded, or being fixed.  We bought a beta product.  It is what it is.  

It is often not their fault.  As you probably already know, in the world of the internet things change, providers go out of business, search engines change coding or policies and thus things break.  The team here can only react to the changes, since they did not cause them.

Usually these issues are fixed in a matter of hours, or maybe a day.  In my memory, this is only the second time they have had a prolonged response issue to a problem.  So this must be pretty severe. 

I say all this to put things in context for you users of MS you are getting impatient.  If you think you needs solutions, if you think this is stressful for you, imagine what it is like for them.  You try having hundreds of people email you about the same issue. 

Hey I use this software too.  Often.  I need my rank tracking and keyword tool as much as the next guy (or gal). It is good to let them know what our problems are, but please don't get whiny on the forum.  And don't bring up how you paid for this.  Try finding something else that does what this does.  Good luck.  You'll probably need 3 different software programs and end up paying a monthly fee for each.  So have a little compassion, and a little patience.  These guys provide a heck of a value, even when some modules are broken.  I assure you..the team will get it fixed.

In case you are wondering, I do not work for noble samurai, nor do I know anyone who does.  (Which is why I can talk like this on the forum).   I'm just a guy who appreciates how much easier they have made my life.  Thank you.  (Please don't boot me from the forum.)  Best of luck!

Hi there - these Keyword Research symptoms seem to have cropped up all of a sudden and it's several days since our last update, which suggests it's a change on Google's end - we'll be working on this as soon as we can gather the necessary information.

As usual, I suggest you Email support@noblesamurai.com so that you can get more situation-specific advice and possibly notifications if any are needed.  (we can now track groups of users with the same problem under this new system, if we need to notify them of any updates)   It may help if you can send us Debug Logs of a keyword research run that results in this error message too.

Hernan - thanks for the kind words.  I think it's also important to understand that we're doing more than just trying to keep up; we have roughly doubled our support staff over the past few months and we're in the process of doubling our developer team as well. 

The improved service which should result won't happen overnight, as it takes months for new people to come up to speed on every corner of such complex applications as our Samurai products.  But I think it shows more than just a plucky can-do attitude - in my opinion it shows that management has the resources and the will to keep support and product quality at the top of the priority list.

The Rank Tracker issues are unusually thorny, for a variety of reasons I'm not qualified to go into detail about (I remember enough from my programming days to understand what the developers say, but it doesn't stick in my head for long...)  It's been something of a whack-a-mole game where one bug gets squashed and something else pops up elsewhere because of an unanticipated side effect. 

But the good news is, things have been a lot better for most users over the past week - judging by our shrinking Email backlog alone.  Too many are still having problems and fixing them all is still our top priority, but things are headed in the right direction.

Thanks for the heads up but your support email is responding at least in 2 days and my last email sent you 3 days ago is not responded. 

I don't really understand what do you want us to do except waiting. It is not several days issue. It is same for weeks. And you are still saying same thing "We are working don't worry".

How long will it take? How long are we supposed to wait? I am checking it at least 5 times a day if it is working. After I paid 147$, I don't want to pay to another tool same money.

You should let us know when are you gonna solve it.

Hello,

I just downloaded 88.13.

The google crawl date does not appear in any column in SEO competition.

Also, in SEO competition, the SEARCH DATA BOX counts upward and says, it's 50% done, 70% done, 98% done, reaches 100%, however, the box never goes away. Unless I click "cancel" I can't access the data on the screen.

Advice,... is this a bug problem you are working on?

Google Crawl "CA" also not showing in "SEO competition" for any of the top 10 sites. It's been like this for about a week. I am using MS version 0.88.13 version (latest version as of today)

We are tracking a problem with the CA column, but it's early stages yet.  Could be a quick fix, but it's impossible to predict the future with this sort of thing!

You can get far better, individualized help if you send a message to support@noblesamurai.com - these comment threads aren't designed for the task, and we don't have the spare capacity at the moment to really monitor them regularly (though I am hopeful that will change soon, so we can open up more forums)

We've been a bit behind on the support message queue for parts of the last couple of weeks, between staff illness and holidays, but with any luck we'll be back to full strength on Monday and the catchup should be swift and decisive!

Rebooted Mac and now MS won't even start

Hi Claudio - we've had a few reports of similar symptoms which we're investigating.  (even if Adobe has dropped support for MacOSX versions prior to Snow Leopard, we're still doing all we can!)  Please send an Email to support@noblesamurai.com and we'll help you sort things out.

Philip - same advice, really - send an Email to support@noblesamurai.com and we'll sort things out. 

Unfortunately the updates are a fact of life when a software application is gathering data from third-party data sources which can (and often do) change formats without warning.  We're not just fiddling with the way things work, we're keeping things working! 

It's an unavoidable side effect of this that when a problem crops up, it's often happening co-incident with an upgrade, so the upgrade may attract suspicion even when it's not the cause.   The best way to find out is to let us know via a support Email!
